The
Maple
Snare Drum
The maple snare really sang. Somewhat surprisingly,it boasted a slightly longer
decay than its metal counterparts. This decay combined with a wide range of pleasant
harmonics to create the drum's resonant sound. Yet the drum remained clear, without
any loss of articulation in playing. The warm, throaty crack that come forth
is everything you'd expect from a good wood snare. And building up the roar of
a triple-forte buzz roll with this drum was something I could happily do all
day.

Maple
Oil Finish
CANOPUS's oil finish snare drum has an additional layer in place of the covering.
The sound of the drum is the best described as a crisp and sharp attack, but
totally different from covered or lacquer finish snare drums. We use thicker
ply American maple. Without sacrificing the quality, we have achieved a remarkably
affordable price due to omission of the covering and lacquering process.

Steel
Snare Drum
The drums response was instant,
crisp, and clean. It also prossessd an exceptional dynamic
range, from extremely loud to incredibly
quiet. Its tone
was open yet
controlled, metallic but warm, and pleasantly dry. The drum's capacity for
a cracking backbeat would make it ideal for playing chatter.
Yet with its outstanding
sensitivity it would also do well in orchestral settings. (It would be ideal
for executing Ravel's "Bolero".)

Champagne
Sparkle
The MFP snare begins by applying oil to the base shell
before attaching the covering material. This process
controls unwanted high-pitched overtones to produce a
deep wet sound ideal for rock drummers.

Zelkova
Snare Drum
With the depth and body one would expect from a wood-shell
snare drum, it also has the high-end ring that's more typical
of a metal-shell drum --- and that helps the sound project.

Vintage Snare Wire
Needless to say, you would agree that a snare drum is
the most important component in drum sounds, and the
determinant factor of the snare drum is snare-wire.
However, this fact has not been fairly recognized until
very recently except a few drummers.

In 1960, Ludwig and Slingerland
manufactured what has now become the standard for good
vintage wire.
Several manufacturers have tried to re-produce the sound.
After years of research, we have
replicated the Slingerland wire taking into several
factors into account such as material, spiral diameter
and pitch.
We finally decided a core thickness of 0.5 mm and a spiral diameter of 1.35mm
and a pitch of 3.4 mm.
In that process, we also found that end plate is another determinant of snare-wire's
sensitiveness and we have tried various end plates with different thickness'.
We concluded that the thickness of 0.8mm is enough and optimal to hold the
wires.
We also decided to exclude the guiding grooves for snare strings and tapes
while most of makers use such groove on end plates for more contact of with
snare side head to get more sensitivity.
Actually, these guiding grooves turned out to impair the sensitivity of the
snare drum like tape muffling as a whole. But our end plate is so thin, it
might cause breakage of strings and tapes.
Therefore, we resolve such problem
by having the lapel at the holes on the end plate.
With years of our careful analysis of the material composition, thickness of
the end plate, shaping experiments and consideration for production, we have
completed the CANOPUS Vintage Snare-wire.
Young jazz super drummer Bill
Stewart once visited us.
He was so impressed by our proto-type Vintage Snare-wire and asked us if he
could use it.
Many CANOPUS endorsers appreciate the sound quality of this snare wire.
2
types for your choice, Dry (DR) and Chrome plated (NP).
DR : Without plating (dry and crisp sound)
NP : Chrome-plated (reduced unwanted high pitch overtone,
yet rich and mild sound)

BELT |
Nylon Snare Wire Belt (CNB)
Nylon Snare wire belt for more durability.
As Canopus New Snare Wire Belt is knitted nylon fiber which is a distinguished
durability in synthetic fiber, you will never have any accident during performances.
The sound will not be choked like snare wire belt made of film when you hit your
snare drum in powerfully. You will realize natural reaction and a rebound as
if it was snare wire strings. You do not need to use a string any more for a
good sound and response of snare wire with any sacrifice of the durability.
|
| |
& CORD |
Snare
Wire Cord (CNC)
Snare wire cord for more sensitivity.
This is the ideal strings for natural bound and stabilized
snappy. The only problem is its durability. Canopus has
conducted research for core fiber material, volume and
weaving for the best and developed very durable one (compare
to our existing ones) without sacrificing intrinsic natural
bound. You will see the improved fitting with snappy and
wider adjustment range from loose to tight positions. This
is the best when the delicacy is called for, typically
in recording situations.
